The big clock at the World Championships pavilion in Oslo has worked itself down to 19 days. What a party it’s going to be!
23th of February, the official opening ceremony is held at the University Square. The FIS-president and the Mayor of Oslo and other important persons will state their well-written speeches. From here, it will be a week of great entertainment in Holmenkollen as well as in the city.
Invasion
Hidden in the well-known fog, the last preparations for the Championship are done in the New Holmenkollen. The arena is ready to welcome thousands of enthusiastic visitors, the tracks are maintained as if they were made of gold, and the forest around the arena is soon to become the biggest campingsite ever.
Final countdown
The cross-country stars have already been there. They have tested the hardest climbs and the steepest descents, and practiced difficult turns to perfection. Then they left again, to collect the shape of their lives. We do cross our fingers for medals, but being entertained is just as important.
Cultural bonanza
In addition to the sport events in Holmenkollen, the organizers have arranged a great deal of happenings in the city during the week. As a warm up for the medal ceremony, a concert will be held every night. Skilled Norwegian musicians and dancers are performing, and a group of international artists have made an exhibition of ice sculptures called “Munch in snow and ice”.
Moods-mania
Among the highlights is a fashion show by Moods of Norway on Thursday the 24th. The designers are famous for their spectacular runways, and this time they have invited old Norwegian ski heroes to show their latest collection, Winter Wonderland.
